Outside the Margins

Crayons strewn across the table,
I would pick a promising picture
From my book and begin to color.
Never content with just the printed image,
I always extended that picture,
Stretching my imagination
To the edges of the paper
And beyond to new pages.
I find I still stretch myself,
My pen chasing the horizon
Across blank paper every day.

Unlocking and stretching imagination is always good for creativity. Nice:)

I like the last two lines!

For myself, I'd say:

"My fingers chase the horizon
across my keyboard every day"

but that doesn't have quite the poetic ring to it, does it? LOL.

While I've started doing a bit more actual writing on the computer, I'm hopelessly addicted to my spiral notebooks, have been ever since I read Natalie Goldberg's "Writing Down the Bones" years ago. Nat's books have been a huge influence on my creative process, I know I wouldn't be nearly a productive without the lessons learned from her!

Interesting, Mary. I get so frustrated when I handwrite something, as I am always revising as I go and end up with crossouts galore and a very messy page. I have read the Goldberg book you mentioned too.
