Strangers in the Night

The air in our room is toxic,
Anger lingering
In a venomous cloud
No apology can clear,
Leaving us almost strangers,
Love teetering on the brink.

I queue up that song,
Our song,
A musical reminder
Of what sparked
The magnetic attraction
That always leads me to your arms,
And in a heartbeat the air clears
And we’re swaying gently
Around our bedroom.

Frank always sang it better than we could ever say…

Wow! Beautiful poem about what can happen in a relationship. Going back to what attracted us to them in the first place is a great way of turning moods around. Love it!

This resonate with me...it helps to remember and go back to what held us in the first place ~

Music is so good for helping two quarelling people calm down. The first stanza is very intense- beautiful poem.

You make the complexities of a long-term relationship quite clear.

Cinatra? lovely! authentic and beautiful piece.it can be music, a glance, an old joke...anything! something clicks and makes things all right and we all keep hoping for that something to arrive.

Your last line is so true. Sometimes words we cannot say are expressed so clearly through a song....and the old strong feelings return again through someone else's words. I like this poem a lot.

Words they cannot find bring them back together again to discover the magic they'd lost. Truly ironic.

I'm glad Frank was able to clear the air for you. I liked this.

I think the music saved them both. There was such tension in the first stanza, the second that follows effectively shows the contrast, I like the change there at the end, gentle, tension is gone. Nice conclusion, a clue that it's a Sinatra song. :) Of course his voice lends heaven. Really enjoyed reading this. :)
