A Blank Stare

Proposagnosia by Jean-Jacques Henner

not pain
only emptiness in her face
no love or joy
no grief or anger
not a hint of the larcenous tragedy
that robbed her
of all she held dear

Aw, I think they've also stolen her spirit. Sad.

You've introduced me to the term "ekphrastic poetry." I love that. I seem to succumb it all the time, but never knew there was a name for it. Thanks.

Mysterious poem and a mysterious face indeed. The term ekphrastic poetry is new to me--couldn't they just call it poems inspired by art? LOL And thanks for posting this at Poetry Jam!

Emptiness indeed. One can see faces like this sometimes, and it is always sad.

(In regard to that picture, however, I do wonder if the artist had cataracts..and if this was indeed what he SAW when he painted the woman.)
