Discards

Gathered around our glowing tree
We sing festive songs of hope reborn,
A belief that love extends to all on Earth.
Your voice rings with misplaced conviction
As you rumple, crumple, discard my weary heart,
A wrapping never meant to be recycled.

I have heard that Christmastime is when we are most vulnerable and likely to be hurt. Your poem illustrates that beautifully.
