Resounding through the empty night,
Discordant melodies take flight,
Lyrics written by Fortune’s fool
In tribute to a man whose cruel
Intentions proved a fatal blight.
Resounding through the empty night
And drowning any chance of sleep,
Those melancholy dirges creep
Into the corners of her mind,
All hope of respite undermined.
Resounding through the empty night,
The music of the sacred rite
That haunts her since their vows went wrong.
Destiny sings her fragile song
Of love that faded with the light,

~~~~ This poem was inspired a prompt from Poetic Bloomings asking for poems about rest as well as a prompt from Imaginary Garden with Real Toads asking us to take inspiration from the works of William Shakespeare. I found my inspiration in the phrase “Fortune’s fool” from Romeo and Juliet.

Fortune's Fool is so resonate for those who have lived long enough to experience it. Sleeplessness can be both a curse and a blessing - I figure out a lot of stuff that's bothering me in the middle of the night, but I'm often over-tired in the day.
Awww...how sad. You caught the mood of Shakespeare's tragedies really well with this.
RYN: Hard to keep one step ahead of them too :) My sister tells me at 16 they become monsters and hate you, but, by the time they reach 21 they love you again...I gulped....haha
this is definitely sad....the echoes of that song surely carry forward in ripples into our lives once it goes wrong...
