Rider Beware

This ride may be hazardous
To those with weakened hearts.
Proceed at your own risk.
Please keep your hands and feet
Inside the car at all times,
Hang on,
And enjoy the ride.

You lured me in
With your street hustle charm.
We both played our roles well,
The puppet master and Mary-onette,
I was jerked around at your whim,
My strings twisting in your grasp,
A dizzying dervish spin,
A maelstrom of uncontrolled chaos
Spiraling toward emotional catastrophe.
I’m tired of the vertigo,
The nausea that will not cease,
Unwilling to strap in
For another trip through your insanity.

Please remain seated
As this Mary-go-round
Comes to a complete stop
And proceed to the nearest exit.
Ride over,
Closed indefinitely.

~~~ This poem was written in response to a prompt from over at dVerse Poets Pub asking for poems about fairs.
The 'puppet master and Mary-onette" - what a vivid depiction! I am glad the Mary-go-round is closed. Better late than never!
Love your "Mary" play on words here, the warnings at the beginning and end... but the middle- that's quite a spin!
Those merry go rounds or as in your case mary go rounds are hard to get off...so glad you got off yours... Very clever spin... on the prompt!
Clever write. I'm also glad the Mary-go-round is over too. Not nice to be given the run around at all.
oh, very cool. I love that you used the disclaimers and even did a play on words using your name, very nice touch. Thanks
Hiya Mary,
I was intrigued by the health warning and safety instruction on either side of your poem.
Where these there displayed thusly [is this a word?}, well you know what I mean.
That would have dampened the fun a bit.
I like the instructions and your personal take on that mary-go-round ~ Some rides are just hazardous to our health and peace of mind ~
Yeah such a ride can surely cause a pain to the brain, better beware indeed.
This one has a slightly sinister feel to it, with your clever manipulation of the Mary-onette. I enjoyed reading it very much.
