Permission Slip

I give myself permission
To suck with no limitations,
To fill page after page,
Notebook after notebook,
With insipid drivel and worthless trash.
I am fully allowed to spout clichés
Until the cows come home
And engage in illogical rants worthy
Of any fringe conspiracy buff,
All in search of that rare poetic gem,
For the only way to achieve greatness
Is to be willing to risk complete failure.

I couldn't agree with you more. If a person is afraid to fail, he/she never will achieve success. I am just now going through all my poetry from the past 2 1/4 years, as I am self-publishing a collection from that time. There is a lot of average fare, some below average fare, and a few that I consider 'gems.' Had I not written ALL of them the gems would not exist. Write on, whatever, as much as you possibly can.

i def agree with your closing statement...you have to fail forward...otherwise you will never be willing to try...

I like where you took the limits prompt--to limitless writing. Yes, we must indeed be willing to risk failure. Write on and on!
