How the Cynic Views a Compliment

I’ll believe it
When I sprout wings
And float on an updraft
Across the mountains
Of self-deprecation
That make my journey
More difficult than necessary.

I’ll believe it
When the truth
Becomes a parasite
In my gut,
Spawning endless worms
Burrowing through my flesh
In a symbiotic union.

I’ll believe it
When compliments
Erupt in seismic chaos,
Spewing acid and ash
Across my face,
Threatening to bury me
In the unstoppable flow.

I’ll believe it
Only when I cannot deny it any longer

The last two lines were very powerful and they highlight the meaning of the piece well. I enjoyed reading this, thanks for sharing.

May you find peace when you are able to believe it.

I like the energy and fervor in your words. I hope you find the truth and believe in it at the end ~

This is a multi-layered piece - the visual and tactile images are very powerful, and the vocabulary well-chosen. Underlying the method is the idea itself: complicated and tangibly felt.

I like the way you mean your feelings here and the way they connect you to the universe. It took me long to come, but I'm here to thank you for participating in my challenge.

Kisses. :)
