Weathering the Storm

Chisel my epitaph
Onto the storm-weathered stones
That crouch along the shoreline,
Where the jagged edge
Of lightning’s glow draws the eye
And winds of discontent split the soul.
We drifted apart in a deluge of tears,
My bruised and beaten heart
Crashed mercilessly against the rocks.
Pierced to my core from your outburst,
I crumple, rain-soaked,
Under the weight of my despair,
But never stop seeking
The glimmer of redemption
Contained in a rainbow’s promise.

~~~~ This poem was inspired by the prompt from Poetry Jam asking for poems about water.  I also used this week's wordle words from The Sunday Whirl.
Wow, this is impressive, Mary. You wove the two prompts together seamlessly. Whenever I see a rainbow, I DO think of the rainbow's promise indeed. I think we all seek this on some level.
The glimmer of hope...that is what we look forward in life in spite of all the heartbreaks and heartaches...nice.
You took full advantage of both prompts, producing a lovely poem in the process.
Happy rainbows to you .......
Wow, those first few lines really grabbed me - what a strong opening,with a spectacular image of the "crouching" rock along the shore. This is very powerful, Mary. Loved it.
This is beautiful, and oh how fitting the image!
Love this:
"I crumple, rain-soaked,
Under the weight of my despair"
This reminds me of the play "Into the Woods" where one of the episodes...Prince Charming does a 'Love 'em and leave 'em' bit. But there is always hope. Enchanting!
