The Perfect Cup

“If this is coffee, please bring me some tea; but if this is tea, please bring me some coffee.”
~Abraham Lincoln

I start my day with coffee,
Without it I don’t budge,
But when my husband makes it,
It tastes like bitter sludge.

I try the local café,
Still craving my first sip.
I spit it out without delay
With grounds upon my lip.

I contemplate the drive-thru
And my hands shake with dread.
I think I’ll hit the mini-mart
And buy a Coke instead.

This made me laugh!

But Coke could NEVER in a million years replace coffee. LOL.

Hey, I often say the same thing to my husband - who knew I was quoting Lincoln :)

What does it take to get a good cup of coffee around here?

Starbucks won't let you down!

LOL! Been there, done that!

Starbucks would be great if I didn't have to drive almost 50 miles to get to the nearest one!

Aha! Another coffee snob, ahem, aficionado! I am a tea drinker, so cannot relate, but The Good Husband is VERY particular about the coffee he'll partake.

Oh, fun! Hope you found that perfect cup right away! (I am a coffee snob and totally understand this! I buy Starbucks beans and grind them fresh every time but just for me. My husband is content with Folger's, so I always make two kinds of coffee.)

What a fun poem! The coke wouldn't suffice for me. Gotta have my morning cup or five of coffee. Hubby always has it ready when I emerge from slumber. Sometimes he makes it a wee bit strong, but I don't complain. My mom on the other hand... well, if you can see the bottom of the cup, it isn't strong enough!

Thanks for sharing this. You made me smile.

I love the Lincoln quotation. And a poem about coffee is just my thing.
I love coffee, hot, cold and in between. For years, my coffee cooled beside me while I worked, so I'm used to it at any temperature, but I can't stand it if it has been sitting on the warming part of the coffee maker for hours. Then it tastes burnt. Ugh. Most mornings, my husband turns the machine off after he pours his one (very large) cup each morning. On the mornings when he forgets, I suffer.
Enjoyed your poem.

One just can't top Lincoln. The mornings I find I have run out of coffee are horrible. How can one little cup (or five) make such a difference? Funny poem.
