Hearts
Greeting cards and pop songs
Would have us believe
Hearts are pretty,
Polished,
Easily healed to pristine condition.
In reality,
Hearts are ugly,
Scarred with the tattoos of youthful regret,
Riddled with bloody chasms of grief and loss.
We wander through the voids
And curse our futile attempts at normalcy,
Questioning how we arrived there
And how our damaged hearts can ever go on.
But, across the gaps and the scars,
We breathe.
We move.
We love,
And we never forget.

They go one, for time is a great healer! ♥
You offer a very different perspective on the heart in a poem well-concluded.
flawless! simply flawless!
we do forget sometimes, but our heart doesn't. ever.
Ah, The Truth About Hearts. I like!
In time, the heart is very forgiving, thank goodness.
I particularly like the resolution of the final stanza too. Those three short lines very effective.
very true and very good.also, thanks for ur comments on mine :)
hmm. I think our hearts do mend... Me thinks it is all in the brain.
Interesting point of view. I enjoyed this!
amazing what the mass media gets up to believe
Mary,
This is great! Looking through the looking glass of what happened in real life. It's educational I would think!

Visiting from Real Toads: You have given me things to think about here...showed a side of 'heart' we don't often address.
definitely a different view of the heart...yep, the heart surely takes a beating, but you're right..."we breath, we move, we love..."
